ORTEC Marketing has a product called Media Optimizer that helps clients to figure out which media spent results in conversions. At the core of this product is a conversion attribution module that determines how conversions should be attributed to different touchpoints (like Google Adwords, a newsletter, Organic Search Results, Display Advertisements, TV, Radio, etc.). It could well be that an user has visited many touchpoints before converting, and the conversion attribution algorithm then proceeds to allocate an appropriate amount to each touchpoint.
The input for the conversion attribution algorithm is a large amount of data. Every time a user sees an internet advertisement or visits the client website, there is a row of data. It can therefore take a lot of time to process the data, so it makes sense to use big data techniques like Apache Spark for data processing. We would therefore like to re-implement the conversion attribution algorithm in a distributed fashion.
